35mm of pleasure
A recent morning of photography with laura barnard gave me the opportunity to try out my new camera for the first time. In keeping with my recent fondness for all things retro and inexpensive it’s a camera I bought for less than five english pounds from a charity shop. For those of you interested in these things it is a Halina from the 1960s and requires that all adjustments be made in a manual fashion. It uses proper film and everything. Using much guesswork and intuition I shot a roll of film and here is a selection of four of the pictures. I am rather fond of them.

These look cracking. Particularly great as they were the first test roll, they look like you’ve been using the camera for ages.
Onwards for more, I say! We’ve got six rolls of film to get through…

I like the lilac cast on them. Not sure whether that’s a scanning or processing thing, but it gives them a somewhat surrealist and oddly-inviting tone.
Film forces you to be a bit more selective about your shots, as you’re paying for processing. None of this digital malarkey, where each shot has effectively the cost of zero pennies. Focuses the mind in a different way, I guess.
I like your blog with its analog tendencies, and as discussed, I’m slightly bemused but curious by your great vinyl experiment. It’s bookmarked and I shall pop in from time to time with a cup of tea to take a moment away from the daily grind.
